Besides the sweets of Cafe Breton

The mention of Cafe Breton always brings a sweet note to my mind – especially when I’m reminded of my friends who absolutely adore the cafe’s Nutella crepes. But that’s not what I’m going to talk about today. No, this post is for the other savory dishes that Breton offers – because really, there’s much more to it than just dessert.

Excalibur (P215) 3.5 out of 5 on the DO scale

The name alone is enough to strike a fancy – and perhaps even raise an eyebrow – but it’s a good choice for those who’d prefer a light snack without the sugar crash. Creamed stalks of asparagus are found inside which might have given the dish its unique name – given that Excalibur was a sword and all. I don’t really know, I’m just guessing. The crepe also includes ham and emmental cheese, which I believe could be substituted for something more delicate to avoid overpowering the delicate taste of the vegetable.

Go Fish Open Face Sandwich (P215) 3.5 out of 5 on the DO scale

The salmon is sliced quite thinly and rests on a bed of scrambled eggs on whole wheat triangles. Cream, rings of white onion, and capers are then scattered on top for added flavor. In my opinion, the presence of the capers made all the difference because it enhanced the flavors of the small serving of salmon.
