I love breakfast.
There are weekends when I would wake up at 6am, prepare a quick breakfast – possibly something really easy like cereal and milk – sleepishly spoon over a couple of bites while going over my Snapchat feed, and go back to sleep.
Uncalled for, yes. Lazy, yes. Inklings of a glutton, yes.
But that’s the way I am. Missing breakfast turns me into a grumpy person. So I wake up, eat, and go back to sleep.
In our 2 week US stay, Vergs and I headed to Washington DC to file paperwork for our marriage. We borrowed his friend’s car, stocked up on favorite Wawa breakfasts, and sang ourselves silly during the 4 hour ride from Norfolk.
While in DC, we stayed in Joud Residence, which was amazing because of its location. We were in Georgetown, so we basically had tons of cuisines to choose from with each meal.
But breakfast was tricky. Mornings were particularly cold in DC plus we spent one too many times being blown by the wind. So we figured, maybe we I could just make breakfast indoors.
A trip to Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods did wonders. I went through every aisle, ogling at all the things I could buy.
Yogurt covered pretzels, oh most def. Truffle dark chocolate, yup chucking those in. Beer, wine, and cheese for a great night, don’t even think twice. Now, let’s see, what else… Oh right! Breakfast! Completely forgot that’s why I came here in the first place.
The photo on the right is what I made: Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bagels with bits of melon and raspberries. It may not look like much, but it’s definitely a far cry from regular old cereal and milk. Received plus points from the husband, who was busy sleeping while I prepped too. Haha!
Next time, I’m making it a point to master a breakfast spread – pancakes, waffles, spreads, sunny side up eggs, toast… Maybe I’ll do a Filipino themed one too – sinangag, tapa, scrambled eggs, corned beef, daing na bangus… GOODNESS, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS. CAN’T WAIT TO BE WITH THE HUSBAND AGAIN! <3
